Gartner’s Q2 2026 Executive AI Readiness Survey delivers the most operationally significant finding of the AI governance year: 62% of executives acknowledge that their current data architecture will fail an EU AI Act conformity audit. The EU’s August 2, 2026 conformity deadline for high-risk AI systems: the point at which non-conforming systems are locked out of the EU market, not fined: is now a revenue event for any organization whose AI-dependent products reach European customers.
The specific failure modes that conformity assessors examine: absent training data provenance records, inability to independently reproduce documented performance results, and missing human oversight designations at the decision points the Act designates as requiring human review. All three are documentation failures, not technical failures.
